Excellent & informative site. Three Denniston brothers, 1st cousins of my great grandfather, were members of Co. G, 1st USSS - Hans died of wounds suffered at Chancellorsville, John was killed in action at the Battle of the Wilderness and his twin brother George died from wounds suffered at Spotsylvania. I'm interested in any accounts or pictures related to Co. G, 1st USSS. Thanks.

Very interesting website. I am researching the William Y.W. Ripley & Edward Hastings Ripley family. William wrote one of the books in your library list. I would be interested to know if anyone has one for sale. We live in the house where the Ripley family was raised in Rutland, Vermont. Evergreen cemetary (where William is buried) is in our backyard. Any information, books or photos would be very appreciated on any of the Ripley family or home.

Excellent site. Superb basic presentation. My research indicates that the green uniform used by USSS may have originated with the green uniforms worn by Hessian "Jagers" during American Revolution. Those Jagers performed much the same function as the CW Sharpshooters and were accordingly respected and feared.

I am a collector of historic American flags and recently purchased a 48-star flag with the following overprint: 1896 JULY 29, 30 and 31 Berdan's U.S. SHARP SHOOTERS AT THE RESIDENCE OF ELI COOK EATON RAPIDS, MICHIGAN The flag is silk and measures 6" long and 4" high. I assume this was a encampment of the 1st Regiment, Company I but have not been able to find any specific information about the event. I did find a photo of Eli Cook on your site and a list of Company I officers and enlisted men. Certainly I would appreciate any information you might be able to pass on or suggestions as to reference sources I can investigate. Thanks very much. J. Richard Pierce

A refreshing, well designed and educational website! As a Sharpshooter descendant, I must applaud you for the knowledge you bring to people like me who may not have known much about the role our ancestors played in the Civil War. Thanks for helping to keep alive the spirit of these fine men. May we all keep on learning about and remembering their sacrifices so that we ourselves become better people for it!
