Cal and Fellow Sharpshooters. Remarkable find! I also discovered why I was having trouble trying to load the magazine with a brass tube--it was too large! Lawrence explains: Quote: My improved primer the piston is pushed down as far as desired by the tube full of pellets in the usual manner, but care is taken to place the slit of the tube opposite the shut off (my tube did not have a slit either, and after examining the original tubes more closely, the metal is too thick ), The shut off is then pushed forward and the point of its wedge-like front portion, 13, entering the tube above the caps retains them in the magazine while the tube is being drawn out & after it is drawn out, without any trouble to the operator. I also have to re-examine how I assembled the system---looking at Lawrence's drawings the magazine cover appears to be oriented differently than how I installed mine in the photo-essay. 'evening, After picking up a tube of the original primers, I had also wondered about the loading process. It wasn't until after Bill posted that I realized that I was mistaking the "loading slot" on the tube for the slit in the instructions. I'm wondering if the "slit-less" primer tubes are pre-pellet primer improvement. In other words, for the version before the manual cut off was added with the '59 model. Although my tube will just barely fit into the end of the primer magazine - I'm not sure it would once the slight compression to the base of the tube (to keep the primers in place) is forced outward by forcing the primers down into the magazine. Bill - a question for you. You stated that the patent drawings have the magazine cover oriented differently than your article. Could you elaborate, as I'm missing that. I've stared at both illustrations side by side, and also at my lock, and I don't see the difference. I'm curious what I'm missing, because you have years more experience than I do. Thanks, Calum |
