A hand made target rifle made by R. Wasserman of Washington, D.C. circa 1850-60. Lots of details for those thinking of 'authenticizing' their humble Hawken rifle to a precision target rifle; peep sight mounted at stock wrist, front sight with cover, false muzzle, elevated cheek piece on stock, checkering, etc. Also featured are USSS and Winslow Homer backdrops to the rifle. Mr. Taylor speculates if the rifle saw service with the USSS, but uses it as an example of a few of the 'top drawer' rifles the wealthier shooters may have brought into service with them.

Here is the link to Dave Taylor antiques--sadly, rifle has been sold.
