Fellow Sharpshooters,

Brian White has provided images of two of the “New York Indians” mentioned in Charles B. Mead’s “Last Journal”. Sadly, recruit Peter Laflin would lose his life at the battle of Weldon Railroad. While Mohawk member, George Squires, survived the War. It is wonderful to have images of two Native American men who volunteered to serve a cause and country that initially rejected them, with one making the ultimate sacrifice for that country.

The link starts with the image of Charles Bailey. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Brian White’s webpage that will list his collection of Vermont sharpshooters.

What struck me was the number of Co. F boys struck down at the Wilderness on May 5th.
