Hello Members. I am doing genealogical research on my family and recently discovered that my grandfather's uncle was a private in Co. "D", 1st U.S. Sharpshooters. I hope to find more information about him and "Berdan's Sharpshooters" on your great site. Thank you. Greg

Great to have you here! I'm actually from the area where Co. D of the 1st was raised, so hopefully I'll be able to help you out a bit!

We're glad to have you! Are you an actual sutler? Do you have a website?

Hello everyone from Califonria, it has been a very long time since I have been around. Getting excited about the upcoming reenacting season.

Mr. Rider, thank you for hosting this board.

I'm hoping to enlist your help in the research I am doing re: Thomas Johns(t)on (born 1811). Noticed in a photo I just received of his grave, it mentions he was a Berdan Sharpshooter (1st Regiment). He was my Granddad's great-grandfather.

He was from Ireland, lived in Little Falls, NY (probably was in Company B), was about 51yrs old when he joined Berdan and made it home alive. He died in 1868 at the age of 57.

What sort of historical info do you have access to? No one has a photo of him and we would love to try and find one. How about muster rolls? Any information would be a great help. I'll try and email the photo of his grave marker to you. Do you have an archives that you want to have that sort of thing for?

Thanks so much for what you do. Is there a schedule available that tells when you folks are "in the field"? I live in Maine and my teenage sons and I would love to see Great, great ...grandfather Johnson's unit in action.
