I stumbled upon these while looking for better pictures of the sharps ammo boxes. I've never seen one of these before...so I figured I'd share.

Update October 2020

Fellow Sharpshooters, the link Jeremiah provided in his original post no longer connects to the Sharps Pellet Primers. McPheeters now lists them at the following link:

Jeremiah,

Very interesting find. I have seen photos of the round tins that just held the pellet primers; but this is the first time I've seen a tin designed to carry 'preloaded' primers, brass tube and loading plunger. Looks like the exterior of tin 004 has been japaned black. The box looks like it was sealed by affixing the label over the top and sides. From what i can read of the label, I presume box and contents were manufactured by the Sharps Mfg. Co.'s Hartford, CT complex or their contractors.

The second image 007--shows a great set of photos of the interior of the second tin--I was surprised by the very crude soldering, raw edges exposed, etc. It makes me wonder if the second box was part of War-time construction and the first pre-War. Again photos of the interior of box 004 would give us another clue.

I don't know if the seller would be interested in revealing the dimensions of the box but it could be helpful if somebody wanted to recreate the box. Bill Hoover of the Village Tinsmith (he made up the original Berdan messkits) might be able to re-create one--there doesn't seem to be alot of unusual bends or features, except for the top--he'd probably be insulted if asked to make the interior as crude as 007's.
