Ft. Snelling is where Co. L, 1st USSS and Co. A, 2nd USSS were mustered.
In the past we have been allowed to sleep in the original barracks inside of the fort. This is a very nice facility with a modern interpretation center, museum, and gift shop!

Civil War Weekend
Historic Fort Snelling, St. Paul MN

Dates: Aug. 8, 2009, Aug. 9, 2009

Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fee: $10 adults, $8 seniors and college students, $5 children ages 6-17. Free for children age 5 and under and MHS members.

Travel back to the Civil War and experience 19th-century life at Fort Snelling. More than 24,000 Minnesota soldiers fought in battles across the country. In Minnesota in 1862-63, volunteers were also called upon to fight the Dakota who went to war as the result of food shortages and broken promises of treaty payments. Special tours will be offered focusing on the US-Dakota War. Guides will lead visitors to the memorial where the Dakota were held. Other activities throughout the weekend include costumed staff, artifact displays, weapon firing demonstrations, Civil War reenactors, crafts and dance.
