Fellow Sharpshooters

I received a catalog from the Gettysburg Heritage Center (gift shop) and was surprised to discover that they had for sale the U.S. Sharpshooters medal that was created during the reunions of the late 1880-90's to coincide with the publication of Berdan's United States Sharpshooters in the Army of the Potomac.

The original veterans were very proud to wear these medals during GAR and USSS reunions. Both the Hudson (MI) Gazette and Shakopee Courier (MN) prominently displayed photos of the medals that accompanied articles written by or about the local Sharpshooters.

The modern reproduction, from my memory, was recreated by an artisan or a member of the Wisconsin Company (G-1) who competed with the North South Skirmish Association during the 1990's. I purchased 3 for myself (1 going to my late uncle who kindled my love of shooting and Sharpshooters--it is still affixed to my daughter's Angle Bear beanie baby that she gave to him and sat on his bedside after his stroke).

If you are looking for a nice Christmas present to add to your list. It is listed for $19.99.
